At Rescue Recycle, we believe small actions can create a big impact. And our recent electronics recycling event in Hemphill, Texas, proved just that! While our nationwide mail-in program focuses on recycling handheld devices like cell phones, tablets, and MP3 players, this community event was a special effort to support local residents by collecting a wider range of e-waste, including larger items like TVs and computers. On December 14th, the community came together to recycle a staggering 6,300 pounds of e-waste, keeping harmful materials out of landfills while supporting a cleaner planet.
Community-Powered Recycling
The event, held at Farmers Insurance at 111 Market St., saw residents drop off old laptops, monitors, printers, and other accepted electronics, filling our collection trailer to capacity. The turnout was incredible, highlighting the growing awareness of responsible e-waste disposal.
“Seeing our community come together to responsibly recycle 6,300 lbs of e-waste was incredible. It’s proof that small actions can lead to a big impact—not just for the environment, but for the causes we support.” — Stoncia Bethke, Founder & Director of Rescue Recycle

Why E-Waste Recycling Matters
Every year, millions of tons of electronic waste end up in landfills and incinerators, releasing toxic chemicals into the environment. Electronics contain materials like lead, mercury, and cadmium, which can contaminate soil and water if not disposed of properly.
By recycling, we help:
Reduce pollution by keeping harmful chemicals out of ecosystems.
Conserve natural resources by reclaiming valuable metals from old devices.
Minimize landfill waste, preventing long-term environmental damage.
E-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world, and events like ours offer a simple, local solution to a global issue. Every device recycled makes a difference!
The Hidden Value in Your Old Electronics

Many people don’t realize their old, unused electronics still have value. Even if a device no longer works, parts such as circuit boards, wiring, and screens can be reused, refurbished, or responsibly recycled.
This means that when you donate to Rescue Recycle, you’re not just cleaning out your home, you’re:
Extending the life of electronics, reducing the need for new production.
Helping schools and nonprofits through refurbished technology donations.
Lowering carbon footprints, as it uses fewer resources than manufacturing new devices.
This week, for example, we donated 10 refurbished flat-screen TVs to Goodwill Center TX, demonstrating how secondhand technology can continue to serve communities instead of becoming waste.
Giving Back: Our Mission Continues

Beyond recycling, we also focus on giving electronics a second life. So we donated 10 refurbished flat-screen TVs to the Goodwill in Center TX, helping extend the impact of our work beyond just waste reduction.
A portion of the proceeds from repurposed electronics will go directly to supporting animal rescue centers, helping to provide food, shelter, and medical care for animals in need.
“This is just the beginning. We hope to continue hosting events like this and growing our nationwide mail-in program, making it easier than ever for people to recycle their old devices.” — Stoncia Bethke
