Electronics Recycling in Louisiana: Where to Recycle Old Phones & Small Electronics

How to Recycle Electronics in Louisiana

Have an old smartphone, tablet, or other electronic device collecting dust at home? You’re not alone. Small electronics often end up forgotten in drawers, even when they contain materials that could be recovered and reused.

For Louisiana residents, finding a convenient place to recycle electronics can depend on where you live. Larger cities may have designated collection programs, while residents in smaller communities and rural areas may have fewer nearby options.

Fortunately, there are ways to responsibly recycle unwanted electronics without having to make a long trip to a recycling center.

Whether you’re in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Lafayette, Lake Charles, or a smaller Louisiana community, here’s what you should know about electronics recycling and how Rescue Recycle can help.

Where Can You Recycle Electronics in Louisiana?

Louisiana has several options for recycling unwanted electronics, but availability varies by parish and municipality.

Some communities offer electronics collection through local recycling centers or special collection events. For example, New Orleans lists e-waste among the materials accepted at its recycling drop-off center. The Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council in Baton Rouge also handles various types of electronics.

Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality

For a starting point, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality maintains information about recycling resources throughout the state.

Before visiting a collection location, confirm that it accepts your particular devices. Some facilities accept computers and televisions but may not accept every type of small electronic device.

Why Should You Recycle Old Electronics?

Even when an electronic device stops working, it may still contain valuable materials such as copper, aluminum, and other recoverable components.

Recycling helps recover these materials and reduces the need to send unwanted electronics to landfills.

However, recycling isn’t always the first step. A phone with a cracked screen, an older tablet, or a device that no longer holds a charge may still have usable parts or potential for refurbishment.

Giving electronics another useful life whenever possible helps reduce waste and makes better use of the resources already invested in manufacturing them.

Recycle Small Electronics by Mail from Anywhere in Louisiana

Not everyone has an electronics recycling center nearby, especially in Louisiana’s smaller towns and rural communities.

That’s where Rescue Recycle comes in.

Our mail-in electronics recycling program allows Louisiana residents to donate qualifying small electronics without needing to locate a nearby drop-off facility.

We accept a variety of small handheld devices, including:

  • Cell phones and smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Smartwatches
  • Digital cameras
  • Other qualifying small electronics

Your devices don’t have to be in perfect condition. Older, broken, and activation-locked devices still qualify for our program.

How Does Mail-In Electronics Recycling Work?

Sending your electronics to Rescue Recycle is easy, no matter where you live in the state.

If you’re donating four or more eligible devices, we’ll provide a prepaid USPS shipping label. Smaller donations of one to three devices are welcome too; you’ll simply use your own shipping label. By covering shipping on smaller shipments, you help us put more of the value recovered from donated electronics toward responsible recycling and supporting animal welfare organizations.

After submitting your donation through our website, package your devices securely and send them to Rescue Recycle using the appropriate shipping label.

Before getting started, take a quick look at our accepted electronics list to confirm that the devices you’d like to send are eligible for the program.

What Happens After You Donate Your Electronics?

At Rescue Recycle, we believe that electronics should be reused whenever practical.

When your devices arrive, we evaluate them to determine whether they can be refurbished, reused, or recovered for parts.

Electronics that cannot reasonably be reused are sent through our downstream electronics recycling process for appropriate handling and material recovery.

This approach allows us to extend the useful life of qualifying electronics while helping keep unnecessary e-waste out of landfills.

Your Old Electronics Can Help Animals, Too

Recycling electronics through Rescue Recycle does more than support responsible e-waste management.

We’re a woman- and veteran-owned, family-run small business that donates 20% of our profits to animal welfare organizations.

Our mission brings together two causes we care deeply about: reducing electronic waste and supporting animals in need.

By donating eligible electronics, you’re helping us continue our recycling efforts while contributing to the animal rescue and welfare organizations we support.
